Board certified in orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Alexander has been in practice for over 30 years. He is an experienced, seasoned physician leader. A 1973 graduate of Northwestern University Medical School, he completed orthopaedic surgery residency training at the Naval Medical Center Oakland. After serving over 26 years in the United States Navy, retiring at the rank of Captain, Dr. Alexander moved to Sun Valley, Idaho in 1998 where he is in private practice and an attending staff at St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center. There he has served as Chief of Surgery, Vice-chief of Staff and Chief of the Medical Staff. During a distinguished Navy career and while assigned to the Naval Medical Center Oakland, he has had numerous leadership roles including Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Director of the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program, Director of Surgical Services and Orthopaedic Specialty Advisor to the Surgeon General of the Navy. Dr. Alexander remains active academically, lecturing nationally and internationally, and holds the faculty rank of Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland.
